In this assignment you are going to use an example data set and use the Visual Vocabulary to think about what kind of visualisations would be the best option to deliver different messages to your audience.

The data set you are going to work with is the “Acquisition of citizenship by age group, sex and former citizenship” from Eurostat (code MIGR_ACQ).

To simplify the data a little bit, and to limit the data file size, the data about age groups was left out of the table. You can download a compressed csv file or an Excel file with the data with the links below (both files contain the same data).

Expected output

First you should formulate at least 5 questions about the data that would be interesting to get insights from in the data. Examples of questions are:

After formulating your questions, navigate to the Visual Vocabulary and identify the column in the Vocabulary that would be the best to answer each of your questions. Then, look at the options in each column, and identify the chart type that seems to be the best chart type to use for answering your question.
