For this module, you are going to test the accessibility of 2 web pages that contain data visualisations.

Feel free to choose any other page to test its accessibility, but choose a page that contains one or more charts to also evaluate the accessibility of the visualisations.

Helping you stay safe on Britain's roads: DVSA's strategy for 2017 to 2022

Greenhouse gas emissions falling in most source sectors

Here is a list of accessibility features to test, but please also consider other features mentioned in the previous modules.

  1. Are the interactive elements and links accessible by using the tab key?

Yes

Are the visualisations vector (SVG) or bitmap (JPG, PNG)?

  1. In case of bitmap images: is there any text “baked” into the images?
  2. Are the visualisations understandable? (see the Making data visualisations understandable module)
  3. Do the visualisations have a text description accessible to screen readers (alt attribute, title attribute, …)
  4. Are the visualisations responsive? What strategies are used to make them work on smaller screens? (see the Responsiveness and data visualisation for small screens)
  5. How are the page and its visualisations accessible to screen readers?
  6. Are the used colours colour blind safe, and is there enough contrast?
  7. When colour is used, is there an additional encoding used to not only rely on colour? (see the Colours, colour blindness and data visualisation module)
  8. Is the page and the visualisation functional when the browser is zoomed in?

Expected outcome

Paste the link to the pages you evaluated plus your findings around accessibility in the submission section below.
